Very Good condition.
This is a commemorative government publication, issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) in the early 1900s, collecting the official memorial addresses given before Congress for three assassinated U.S. presidents:
• Abraham Lincoln (assassinated 1865)
Address delivered by George Bancroft, the eminent historian, before Congress in 1866.
• James A. Garfield (assassinated 1881)
Address delivered by James G. Blaine, who had been Garfield’s close political ally.
• William McKinley (assassinated 1901)
Address delivered by John Hay, McKinley’s Secretary of State and former private secretary to Lincoln.
🏛 Historical Context
Each of these memorial addresses was originally published separately after the presidents’ deaths, but around 1903–1905, the Government Printing Office bound them together in a single memorial volume for members of Congress, libraries, and dignitaries.
These books were not sold commercially — they were distributed officially, making them relatively scarce today, especially in good condition.
