NORIE, JOHN & WILSON, GEORGE
Norie and Wilson was a British maritime chartmaker founded by William Heather, in 1793. Opened as a ‘navigation warehouse and stationers’ in Leadenhall Street, it made nautical charts of Europe and the Americas, before expanding into Africa and Asia. William Heather died at the age of 46, and the company was bought by John Norie, an existing member of staff, and George Wilson. In order to compete more effectively with the Admiralty, the company purchased James Imray and Sons (q.v.) in 1899, and Laurie chartmakers in 1904 - it remains in existence today as Imray Laurie Norie & Wilson.
